The English and Scottish Popular Ballads

Originally published 1882–98, this monumental ten-part work by Harvard scholar Francis James Child (1825–96) contains the text and variants of 305 ballads, with detailed commentary and critical apparatus. Volume 2, Part 1 (1885) contains ballads 54-82, including 'Fair Annie' and 'The Bonny Birdy'.
