The English and Scottish Popular Ballads

Originally published 1882–98, this monumental ten-part work by Harvard scholar Francis James Child (1825–96) contains the text and variants of 305 ballads, with detailed commentary and critical apparatus. Volume 5, Part 1 (1892) contains ballads 266-305, including 'Get Up and Bar the Door' and 'The Outlaw Murray'.
